OCHO RIOS · JAMAICA
Waterfalls into the sea, jungle pools above the town.
Dunn’s River, the Blue Hole, White River rafts and the Marley pilgrimage at Nine Mile. The cruise port day, and everything Ocho Rios is once the ships have gone.
Only in Ocho Rios
Three things you can’t do anywhere else.
Catamarans, beach clubs and snorkel days exist in every Caribbean port. These three don’t. The waterfall climb, the hidden hill cascades and the village where Marley grew up. Each one belongs to this stretch of north coast. Plan the trip around them.
The climb
Climb Dunn’s River Falls
Six hundred feet of terraced limestone climbing straight out of the Caribbean. You hold hands in a human chain, your guide picks the route, the water pours over you the whole way up. Nowhere else in the world lets you climb a waterfall directly into the sea. Ocho Rios was built around this one experience.

In the jungle
The Blue Hole & Secret Falls
Hidden in the hills above Ocho Rios sits a chain of glowing turquoise cascades the locals kept quiet for decades. You jump off cliffs into the deepest pool, swing in on a rope, swim through carved limestone tunnels. The colour is real, the jungle around it is older than the town, and the only way in is with someone who knows the path.

Up in the hills
Nine Mile & the Marley Mausoleum
Two hours into the mountains above Ocho Rios, the village where Bob Marley was born is also where he is buried. Reggae played on the verandah by people who grew up with him. The childhood home, the Rasta rock pillow from “Talkin’ Blues”, the marble mausoleum. A pilgrimage for one reason and one reason only. There is no other Nine Mile.

The North Coast classic
The one tour everybody starts with.
If you only have one day on shore, this is the one. The Ocho Rios trip the entire town is built around.
The classics
Ocho Rios’ Most Popular Tours
Dunn’s River, the Blue Hole, bamboo rafts, party catamarans, Marley pilgrimages. The trips most travellers come to the north coast to do.
By spot
Pick a stretch of the north coast.
Dunn’s for the climb. The Blue Hole for the jungle pools. White River for the bamboo rafts. Nine Mile for the Marley pilgrimage. Runaway Bay for the quiet beaches, Montego Bay for the bigger swing west.
By kind of day
Or pick how you want to spend it.
Climb a waterfall, jump off a cliff, drift down the White River on a bamboo raft. Ride a horse into the sea, four-wheel through the jungle, sail at sunset, eat jerk under a tree. Pick the day that fits the trip.
In port for the day
The cruise day.
Six hours between gangway and re-board. Long enough for Dunn’s, the Blue Hole or a beach club, short enough to be back before they pull up the ropes. Three picks we’d book on a ship day.

Out on the water
Catamaran & snorkel days.
Hoist sail off Mahogany Beach, anchor over a reef for the snorkel, dance back into port with rum and reggae on the speakers. Three catamarans we’d send our friends to.
Rivers and back roads
When you want to get muddy.
Bamboo raft down the White River, tube the lazy bend, ride a horse into the surf or ATV up into the hills. Our shortlist for the days you don’t want to wear a swim cover-up.
Out of town
Day trips beyond Ocho Rios.
Montego Bay west, Kingston south, Negril for sunset on the cliffs, the Blue Mountains for the coffee, Luminous Lagoon for the glow at night. The day-trips worth a full day from the north coast.
